Imagine LA is proud to announce that we have enrolled our first few emancipated families who have recently exited the foster care system into our program.
"We are now in the business of homeless prevention and family preservation. By catching these vulnerable youth before they end up in homelessness we are in fact breaking the cycle of poverty, neglect and homelessness for the foster youth population in Los Angeles." - Jill Bauman, President & CEO, Imagine LA
Last year, Imagine LA embarked on a first of its kind project with the Los Angeles County of Department of Children & Family Services to do a Pilot Program that will utilize the innovative Imagine LA Family Mentorship Program to work with foster youth exiting the system who have children of their own. This Pilot is funded by the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. The Pilot will serve 10-15 TAY families leaving Extended Foster Care (EFC) to participate in Imagine LA’s two-year Family Mentorship Program. EFC allows foster youth to remain in the foster care system until the age of 21. The goal of this pilot program is to help these young, extremely vulnerable families build relationship skills and connections that empower them to stay together, stay housed, thrive and break their cycle of abuse and neglect.
The families have received Section 8 vouchers and are in desperate need of help finding landlords that accept Section 8 vouchers. If there is anyone that has information on available Section 8 housing, please contact Rebecca@imaginela.org, TAYFT Program Manager.
