Cristina Carlis Joins Board of Directors
Please join us in welcoming Cristina Carlis to Imagine LA's Board of Directors! As General Manager/Executive Director, US Commercial Centers of Excellence for Amgen, she oversees U.S. commercial operations for this multinational biopharmaceutical company, bringing a wealth of expertise to our leadership team.
Cristina's focus will be developing strategic partnerships. She was drawn to Imagine LA's mission and impressed that "every single member of the family -- with such different needs -- is accounted for with a mentor and carefully matched." She noted: "Imagine LA is led by very smart people committed to solving a public health crisis... and Jill is a force of nature!"
Cristina also serves on the Board of Tulane University's School of Engineering, where she helped develop a post-Katrina sustainability plan, as well as plans to ensure undergraduates have a road map and support to find jobs after graduation.
Lorie Nguyen, MSW Joins as Family Team Manager
Just this week, we welcomed our newest Family Team Manager, Lorie Nguyen, to the staff. Lorie joins us from Youth Policy Institute (YPI), where she was community schools coordinator. Before that position, she was program manager for Operation HOPE. She'll combine her experience with local non-profits with her graduate degree in social work from USC to benefit Imagine LA families. We're thrilled to have her on the team! She'll be working with the families at St. Anne's Beverly Terrace and their mentor teams.
Four New Grants Awarded
In November, we were delighted to be awarded several grants:
- Hoag Foundation -- funding our Family Emergency & Investment Funds;
- Borick Foundation -- for evaluation of our upcoming work with emancipating parenting teens at St. Anne’s Beverly Terrace;
- May & Stanley Smith Foundation -- to support our work at St. Anne’s Beverly Terrace and help fund the gap between what we receive from the Department of Health Services and our program costs;
- Ahmanson Foundation -- a generous grant, which completely covers the cost of creating our new home -- namely, our our office move, improvements, furniture and art in our new space.
We send a big shout out to Betsy Uhrman, who helps with all of our grants; Andy Cordon, our office manager, who made our move actually happen; and the rest of our first rate staff, who do life-changing work.
