Seasonal Reminders: Vote, Flu Shot, TB Test

Remember, election day is coming up on November 6! Be sure to plan time to vote. ‘Tis also the season for flu shots and TB tests.

More about TB…

Tuberculosis has been a major health issue among those experiencing homelessness for decades. The Center for Disease Control estimates 5% of people who have tested positive for TB have experienced homelessness in the past year. Because TB is an airborne disease, anyone who has experienced homelessness or stayed in a shelter is particularly at risk, including children.

With flu season approaching, people are more susceptible to TB and may mistake TB symptoms for flu symptoms. Luckily, Los Angeles is home to many organizations offering TB testing that serve patients of all ages regardless of income or social barriers. This article from our friends at Accesa Labs points out half a dozen such organizations and clinics.

Because a big part of Imagine LA’s program is helping our families access regular medical and dental check-ups and maintain regular wellness habits, we encourage them to take advantage of clinics and offerings like this.

Stay well!
