January 30, 2012
Imagine LA Board Member Shelley Miller recently hosted an Outreach Gathering at her home in Hancock Park to share Imagine LA's vision with the local community.  LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky was in attendance and spoke to the group about the scope of homelessness in Los Angeles, and Imagine LA President and CEO Jill Bauman explained Imagine LA's innovative Program and how helping even just one homeless family can make a difference for the greater homeless population in Los Angeles.  This gathering was mentioned in the Larchmont Buzz, and more can be read here:

Imagine LA will be hosting more Outreach Gatherings in the coming months, so if you'd like to learn more about Imagine LA, please check back here for more information or contact Miranda at miranda@imaginela.org.

Thanks to the generous support of all of Imagine LA's donors and volunteers, Bonnie and her kids (pictured above), as well as all of the other families participating in the Imagine LA Program, were able to spend their holidays enjoying gifts, food and time with their loved ones!

THANK YOU to all of our supporters for everything you did in 2011, and here's to a fantastic new year!

We at Imagine LA wanted to share an extremely relevant piece from this week's 60 Minutes. We hope it sheds some light on the issues of poverty and homelessness in our country, in addition to giving you a clearer picture of the people you are impacting with your support of Imagine LA.

Imagine LA has grown to a whopping NINE employees since adding three new members to the staff in the last month!  Jacquelyn Horton and Chantal Duson have joined Imagine LA as our newest Family Team Managers, and Shelley Weitzel is helping out part-time in the area of Faith Outreach.

Jacquelyn has a background in public policy and experience working with the Los Angeles Urban League and the California State Assembly.  She is very passionate about motivating citizens to make a difference in their community.

Chantal's background is in social work, and she has many years of experience working with children and low-income families at Women's Care Cottage, Mary's Shelter and others.  She spent the last few years founding Rescue International, an organization dedicated to helping orphaned children in South Africa.

Shelley has a background in real estate as well as volunteerism.  Shelley has worked as the president of the National Charity League, Glendale Chapter, for years.  As the wife of a pastor, she has a great deal of experience in the faith community and has done a large amount of volunteer work for local faith-based organizations.

We are so thrilled to be adding such strong new members to our team!

ImagineLANovember.pngI've heard it said that there are a number of pillars to "newsworthiness" - impact and novelty being a couple. Another is the pillar of timeliness. In other words, is the news new? As we write The Imagine LA Times each quarter, we strive to engage you with stories that fit into these pillars of newsworthiness and give you a  picture  of  what's  happening  at  Imagine LA  right  now. So,  without further ado, here's a little summary of what you'll find as you read on:

  • New families - Ten new families are currently in the process of being matched with their Faith Partner Teams, and at least two more will join the program by the end of the year.
  • New leadership - Imagine LA's staff has grown to include two more Family Team Managers and some extra help in the faith outreach area; we've also added another amazing member to our Board of Directors.
  • New funding - In addition to a very successful fall event (our Dinner With a View netted well over $100,000!), several new foundations and organizations have offered us generous funding.
And that's not all! This edition will also introduce you to some of our volunteers and family members as well as the tremendous work they're doing. So read on, Imagine LA supporters, and enjoy!

Please join Imagine LA, United Way of Greater Los Angeles and Kobe Bryant for a fun-filled and inspiring morning at this year's HomeWalk on Saturday, November 19. The annual 5k brings together thousands to help support United Way's work to end homelessness. As a United Way Partner, Imagine LA supports this event by assembling a team to join in the festivities.

Beyond knowing that you're contributing to a fantastic cause, your involvement in this year's HomeWalk will earn you:
  • An Imagine LA t-shirt to wear during the walk!
  • Breakfast!
  • Community service hours (great for kids and youth who need them for school)!
  • A United Way HomeWalk t-shirt!
  • The chance to meet Kobe Bryant, this year's Honorary Chair!

We thank you in advance for your support of Imagine LA and our work with United Way to end family homelessness in Los Angeles and beyond!

Imagine LA is pleased to announce that we have received funding from The Rose Hills Foundation and The United Way of Greater Los Angeles.  Both organizations have awarded us grants in the past and we are thrilled to have their continued support.

Additionally, we are proud to say that we have also received funding from a new partner.  The Michael & Irene Ross Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles has awarded Imagine LA funding toward our growing mentorship program!
