Economic Mobility Programming Open House

Thanks to our partners, Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), our Economic Mobility Program (EMP) has a new home!

On June 22, we officially opened our doors in a permanent supportive housing community in the Watts neighborhood, and celebrated with an open house. Local families had the opportunity to learn more about the components of the EMP program offered on-site:

  • Living-Wage Career Pathways,

  • Affordable Childcare Solutions,

  • Comprehensive Financial Fitness Services,

  • and Public Benefits Navigation.

Open house attendees were welcomed with outdoor games for the kids and families, lunch and toys distributed by our partners at LACDA, hand-spun cotton candy and a chance to win a $50 gift card for attending our EMP info session.

Take a look at all the fun we had!

Our LACDA partnership is off to a strong start. One community resident inquired about EMP services with the main goal of acquiring childcare for her 2-year-old daughter, so she may go back into the workforce. She is a college graduate and a certified notary with aspirations of starting her own business. However, she put her dreams on the backburner so she could care for her toddler. Our program was able to connect her with childcare resources and she was recently approved for 30 hours per week of childcare for her daughter – with no cost to her! Successes like this illustrate the importance – and power – of collaborative programs like EMP.

Thanks to our Economic Mobility Program, financial independence is within reach for this LACDA community resident and her neighbors!
