Black History Month with Imagine LA

As Black History Month came to a close, we had the honor of hosting a special event on Thursday, February 29th with our Missouri Place community. This event was not just a celebration of African American heritage and culture, but a gathering filled with joy, creativity, and community spirit.

Thank you to Thomas Safran and Associates for sponsoring this event! The guests enjoyed dinner + dessert, and coffee provided by Starbucks.

The event kicked off with a mesmerizing sound bath led by Victory Jones, a talented artist known for her soulful and healing melodies. The sound bath provided a moment of relaxation and introspection, allowing participants to connect with themselves and the energy of the space. Following the performance, attendees were treated to a live performance from a rising star from our very own ILA community! The young rapper led us through some black history with his own creative flair, and had the whole room dancing.

Raffled items included T-shirts, tumblers, bags, and books!

The creative energy continued to flow with a powerful music performance by Omoghéné, and a spoken word performance by Theory of Soul. Through their words, guests heard the resilience, empowerment, and the rich tapestry of the African American experience. Following the performances, we raffled off various items including T-shirts, tumblers, bags, and books authored by prominent Black writers. Guests left with various favors at the end of the night, including Easter dresses provided by National Giving Alliance, and self care products. We were excited to see the community walk away with various items to enjoy after a night of celebration.

In addition to the captivating performances, the attendees had the opportunity to engage in interactive crafts led by Go As If, featuring influential Black figures throughout history. The children made bookmarks and notebooks to take home at the end of the night.

The evening was not only about celebrating African American culture but also about showing up for our community in tangible ways. As we look back on this Black History Month event, we are filled with gratitude for the moments of joy, creativity, and community connection shared by all. Through live performances, creative expression, and acts of generosity, we honored African American heritage and celebrated the strength and resilience of the community. This event served as a reminder of the importance of coming together, supporting one another, and continuing to uplift and celebrate Black voices every day of the year.
